Bordighera, The “City of Palms”, a small and picturesque locality on the coast, not far from San Remo, during the second half of the 19th century was discovered as a tourist destination by the English, whose presence has left important historical and cultural traces.
The rare beauty of its landscape and its mild climate meant that Bordighera was visited and treasured by personalities such as the Impressionist painter Monet, who painted its best locales, and spoke of the way he was inspired by its fairytale light and colours.
There is a quaint little corner of England in the heart of Bordighera, a church built for the many subjects of His Majesty who resided in this part of Liguria to the late nineteenth century.
Today the Anglican Church of Bordighera has been deconsecrated and hosts events and Protestant and civil ceremonies, and also splendid concerts. The very “British” style of the architecture, and the beautifully well-kept garden lends itself to arranging a classic and refined “tea party” surrounded by the lovely colours and fragrances of the garden.
